Thank you all for the wonderful comments and e-mails from my last post. It's been working out really well working for myself. It gets a little unnerving at times thinking I don't have a guaranteed paycheck on the way, but it's overall the best move I could have made.
Here is a sneak peak at a few pieces that will be in my March solo show at Milwaukee's Sky High Gallery.
Southwestern Native American and Central American art has definitely made it's way into my design process.
Here are a few commissioned pieces I did for the super talented Ada Mayer of Leisure Package blog and Immortal Collection (for which I did a trade for two amazing necklaces!)
We chatted over e-mail about incorporating her new (adorable) cat Marlo into my style for a commission. Usually I dread personalizing my artwork with another person's ideas, but this time I was really excited for realizing Marlo as a folk character in striking New Mexican textile inspired garments. I created a little narrative of Marlo as a fisherman (Ada says he's big into water and suspects him as a fisherman in a past life) and a portrait of Marlo as a shamanic figure holding a scorpion (another nod to the Southwest).
This might be my last post here on the ol' blogspot. I'm crossing my fingers the tumblr site will be up this week. I'm so excited! I hope you all keep in touch.
Bye bye for now!
